Vintage 70s Walk About Hiking Rucksack Backpack Daypack Leather Bottom Bag Rare. Incredible backpack that rarely becomes available. We opted not to wash it because there is a certain patina to the bag that only could come from almost 50 years of use. Overall the bag is in very good condition structurally. The material is solid but as you can see it’s got some discoloration and stains. I believe that a good washing would clean this bag up but that’s only if you want to lose the weathered look. All the leather pieces are in good shape, the interior is fairly clean, the drawstrings and straps are all intact. It appears that the belt buckle is missing but these tight belt buckles can commonly be found online at Amazon. This is a one-of-a-kind backpack with only a small handful still in existence. This thing is honestly much nicer than any vintage Kelty, Jansport, Northface, or any other bag that came later on in the late 70s or 80s. One other unique feature! The suede bottom is shaped at the lower edges in the form of a slight curve that hugged your body. There are also a few metal rods inside the backpack that help give it additional structural shape. The USMC FILBE (Family of Improved Load Bearing Equipment) Pack was designed to be the standard issue upgrade for a Marines load carry system and able to use in conjunction with body armor. Its popularity has also grown to become a great bushcraft backpack in civilian life. The big improvement in this pack was a better, more comfortable way to transport heavy loads for active field use. The Marine Corps issue FILBE backpack system has a more conventional internal frame with a large quantity of structural back padding and support. The shoulder and heavy duty waist belt/kidney pad are adjustable to almost any size. Designed to carry a weighted load of up to 125 lbs so you can take along anything you need. Huge total carrying capacity of 81 Liters, or 5000 Cubic Inches. Frame is comprised of very durable light-weight hardened plastic.
